Lorna Edmiston was born in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1980. While studying Drawing and Painting under James D. Robertson and Barbara Rae, she was elected a member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists.

She began teaching in Glasgow in 1981, and has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Bournemouth and Cardiff, including Bournemouth University and the Arts University at Bournemouth.

Her painting is an intuitive response to landscape, colour and light; her work resides in the area between figuration and abstraction. The subject matter of landscape provides the starting point to explore the use of colour and the calligraphic qualities of paint in the studio.

The west of Scotland has continued to provide a rich source of inspiration, and since living in Wales, the Pembrokeshire coastline has been the subject of more recent works.

She was elected to the Welsh Group in 2012.
