Sharon Magill is an artist whose work explores the fragilities and strengths of self and nature. Empowered by her past Sharon’s practice draws on the relationship between the body as isolated self and as connected with others. Engaging intuitively with natural materials and place Sharon creates a dialogic exchange to explore new meaning.
Sharon works with a variety of media and processes including cyanotype printing, digital video, sound and photography, drawing and painting. Working with others (artists and the public) is an important aspect of her practice. Through participatory and collaborative projects and workshops Sharon invites an openness of exchange and culture of sharing.
As an English born artist living in Wales and with Irish heritage her research engages with identity and migration. The contrasting themes of known and unknown, absence and presence, connection and disconnection are embedded in this practice as she develops a biographical visual narrative. Sharon’s work is increasingly concerned with the environment and climate change, as she develops a balanced and respectful relationship with nature through working with and in the natural environment.
